How to Maintain a Survival Stock – The Prepper Way

Home survival Storage Article Cover

When maintaining a survival stock, you must organize the storage correctly. In this article let’s discuss how we can maintain your prepper techniques. As we discussed in previous articles, having at least 2 weeks’ worth of supplies could come in handy. In recent days there were several events where this kind of storage could be of practical usage. Lockdowns, Civil unrests, and Natural disasters are few events that force us to be more prepared.

You don’t need to focus on a massive budget. Start with a list.

Ask yourself and then the family below questions:

  • What do you need to stay indoors for 2 weeks?
  • What do you need to survive in case the power grid fails?
  • How will you get the news and recent updates on the situation?
  • How will you communicate in case standard communication means don’t work anymore?

When you do shopping, buy just a few additional items that way you can gradually increase the stock. At first focus on the more crucial items like medicines and daily eateries. Also, keep an eye on the credit card offers and other bulk discounts.

After all, part of survivalism is being smart and having a plan.

Storage

When you pick the storage, consider choosing a stronger and more accessible place at the house. Your storage is no good to you if there is a bad shower and everything is wet.

When storing there are survivalist items that do not expire. We have covered that in a different article. For example, you don’t need to consider renewing your candle storage.

But most of the food stocks, and medicines come with an expiry date. This is where you need to use the first in first out strategy. Put the newest items you bought at the end of the shelf and utilize the oldest. With this simple strategy, you can maintain your survival stock without much burden.

You must keep track of the storage and expiry dates and renew accordingly.

Accessibility

There are items you would need in an emergency. You need to keep those easily accessible. Few items you need to be able to reach fast.

  • Bug out bag,
  • Torch,
  • Ham Radios
  • First aid kit

All the family members need to know where each item is located, and you need to do rehearsals with the family on how you need to act in case of emergency.

You don’t need to be much concerned about access to daily necessities.

You need to consider practical factors like Moisture level and sunlight when you are planning your emergency supply storage.

In addition to that, always keep in mind to organize the storage in a child-safe manner.

We have a separate article for Fuel storage for Survival and we highly encourage you to go through that as well.

Pro Tip:

On supermarket shelves, the Latest items are added to the furthest. That way supermarkets get to clear the older stocks first before their expiry date.

If you need an item with a more recent manufactured date, try the items that are furthest on the shelf.

We have a dedicated article to discuss fuel storage.
